Joe has been representing both corporate and individual clients in civil litigation since he began practicing. His practice encompasses all phases of litigation, mediation and arbitration in both federal and state courts in the Mid-Atlantic region. Joe focuses on the defense of a variety of claims, including employment discrimination, premises liability, personal injury, defamation, breach of contract, construction, professional liability and insurance coverage disputes.

  • Obtained a defense verdict in a Virginia Circuit Court in a multi-day jury trial involving claims of personal injury with future economic damages of almost $7 million.
  • Obtained dismissal in U.S. District Court, affirmed on appeal, in favor of local police department on 42 U.S.C. § 1983 case involving alleged deprivation of Constitutional rights under the Fourth and Fourteenth Amendments.
  • Obtained summary judgment in U.S. District Court, affirmed on appeal, in favor of a regional authority in a case alleging religious discrimination/retaliation under Title VII and 42 U.S.C. § 1983, and claims under the federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act and Virginia’s Religious Freedom Act.
  • Obtained summary judgment in U.S. District Court in favor of hotel management company in connection with an alleged sexual assault on premises.
  • Obtained a defense verdict in U.S. District Court in an employment discrimination case against a local police department.
  • Obtained the dismissal of a racial discrimination and retaliation claim brought against a regional authority.
  • Obtained a defense verdict in a Virginia Circuit Court for police officers accused of assault, excessive force, false arrest and malicious prosecution in a $10 million brain injury suit.

  • Obtained summary judgment in U.S. District Court in favor of two police officers accused of assault, defamation and false arrest/false imprisonment.
